Second Sunday of Lent The readings this Sunday are Genesis 15: 5-12, 17-18; Philippians 3:17-4:1; Luke 9: 28-36.
People today seem to be fascinated by the ideas of travelling through space and time. Science fiction films and TV series are really popular.
We shouldn't be that surprised really, because the yearning to "get somewhere", to "be something", to live in "happier times" in built into us all. Deep down we all want to be back where we come from: back with God - in heaven, safe, and loved. We're always searching to find and then be with God.
My homily this week touches on these themes of space and time..... which come together in the Sacred Liturgy of the Catholic Church.......

This is very topical - we're about to have a new pope after Pope Benedict XVI retires at the end of the month, and the Catholic Church across the whole world has its annual celebration of the unity which is achieved through the office of the Papacy. Hear what a very distinguished earlier Bishop of Rome has to say about being pope...... [The gospel is Matthew 16:13-19]
